manusia setengah salmon

raditya dika.
he is the only indonesian writer whom i think his books worth buying.
i just got this manusia setengah salmon at a book fair i stopped by on my lunch break.
this is not a review so if you want to know more about this book, go to a book store, grab one and read it.
or just google it and you’ll find an amazing amount of people talking about that.

some people laughed at me when they saw me happily holding this book.
why?
why do people like to laugh at each other while dika gives the best example to laugh at himself that i believe only a few of us are able to.
i remember i got the same experience when i was on a job interview in a publisher.
the man from human resources laughed at me when i answered his question of “what is your favourite book?” by mentioning “every books written by raditya dika”.
if this is about taste, of course everyone has a taste of their own, then why do we act like we are the best and make a crack of anyone else.

i know i’m not innocent.
i admit i have been there, make fun of others, be the devil i’m sure everyone will hate.
i beg you an apology if i hurt you.

i’m sure that is the most popular quote in the world.
easy to say but not easy to do.
some use it as a weapon. a lethal weapon to kick someone else out of their world.

a friend of mine once said angrily “i’m just trying to be my self. if you don’t like it, just get out of my way!”
i was very shocked. i didn’t know that my feeling or other’s wasn’t important for her.
i couldn’t tell how sad i was to be wiped away from her life just because we didn’t agree on something that wasn’t even worthy.

she forgot that we are human. we all need each other to live.
i believe that selfishness is not the quote is made about.
i believe we still can be ourselves without making others hurt.

sometimes our lives meet in an intersection.
we have to take turn when the green light is on or else we’ll hit each other.
but that light is often hard to see.
we need our heart to see it.

once in a while i read his blog. amazingly some of his posts reflect what i feel at the same time. but how come? last time we had in touch was long before he wrote those posts. how could he know what’s on my mind and spill it out in the right way that i wouldn’t even think of? what a coincidence.

febby is an indonesian. she’s in jogja. she’s one my (few) best friends. she was born the day after me. we shared the same house when I was in jogja–now that i’m not there anymore. we have so much in common. she’s as sloppy-messy-careless as i am, yet she’s a nice, fun, and funny girl. she likes to update her status on facebook.

once in a while i read her status. amazingly some of her posts reflect what i feel at the same time. but how come? we always keep in touch wherever we are but that won’t make a sense how that happens frequently. how could we feel the same way when we live our lives in a different way? what a coincidence.
